| Although Sockets has been dormant on the web for a good
portion of 2008, much of our time was spent lining up new releases for the
beginning of 2009. The first of these releases is Hume Presents The Phat Daughter String Quartet, which was highlighted with some sample clips in the Washington City Paper this week. It’s available directly from the Dischord Records site for $12. Check out the video in the last news update. The next big Sockets release is The Fly Girlz: Da Bratz From Da Ville, the first in a new series of youth hip-hop records curated by Representing NYC. “The Fly Girlz” from Brownsville are paired with Zebrablood (Nathan Corbin) from Brooklyn-based electronic/noise group Excepter. The Fly Girlz are a group of young MCs ages 12 to 14 from Brownsville. The group includes Tamera (aka angel), Tyshana (aka pinky), Vernice (aka Lady Millz), Sharmaine (aka rose), Ameena (aka Sophia), and Ashli (aka Princess). Overcoming social and academic obstacles of all varieties, the Fly Girlz offer a look into their young but challenging lives. Subject matter ranges from boyz to drive-bys, from shoes to changing the conditions in which they are manufactured. Sockets will be hosting a listening party for the new cd in February here in Washington, DC. Mr. Lif and others will be performing at a launch party in New York on March 13, 2009. We'll be posting more info about that soon as details come in. ![]() Sockets will also be releasing a ZS remix 12" in the next few months. We're really excited about it, especially since we're releasing it with Planaria and the remixes were done by Nathan from Excepter. We’re on Facebook. Please join our group to get regular updates.
